Research in Abaco
The Abacos consists of its own 120-mile-long island chain, basically a mini-Bahamas complete with its own Out Islands. Great Abaco Island and Little Abaco serve as the mainland, with a string of barrier islands separating them from the Atlantic. The body of water between a turquoise Nirvana for those boaters and sailors is the calm, shallow Sea of Abaco. Last stop to Africa, Weathered by the sea, it seems to be a popular first boating stop on a trip from the mainland through an Island hopping adventure. I like a place without that tourist feel, the wilder the better. Abaco has some but not much. They call the Abacos "The real Bahamas".
The Abaco Islands are known as one of the worlds top boating and sailing destinations due to its calm sea surrounded by charming islands, each worth a visit. A warm tropical breeze is always blowing. Some of the beaches are what you would imagine a Caribbean Island beach would be like, big, white sand, palms and beautiful turquoise water. Other parts of the coast are corral rock.
Conch can be harvested right off most beaches, which can be made into Ceviche', a citrus, mostly lime can me mixed with the conch along with vegetables. The lime will cook the meat. Very tasty. The main village is Harbor Town, where a man makes ceviche' daily in a little shack by the water if you don't want to make your own. Fishing is wonderful and I enjoyed the little bars on the beach with the local flava.
The colors, textures and interesting subject matter makes this place an artist paradise. Check it out...
