Research in the Smokies
In my mind the smokies are one of top wonders of our country and a big interest of mine. Hiking the Appalachian Trail is something i've wanted to do for a while now.
For years we would go to Gatlinburg biyearly for a industry trade show, where i would paint while selling our wears. I would save a few days to hike around the Great Smoky Mountains National Park and end up in Cades Cove to see deer and scenery. You can get within feet of big Tennessee whitetails while keeping an eye out for Black Bear.
The eye candy of the Smokies is some of the best i've ever seen. Many times i have been lost in the research gathering and picture taking process, when out of nowhere i would look up to see a Black Bear strolling toward me. There seems to be an abundance of them in the park, and they seem to find me. I find this very exciting as long as no one gets hurt, me in general. They are usually more frightened of me and take off running while i count my blessings.
When hiking in the forests, you come across magical landscapes and scenery. From hidden waterfalls to smokey backgrounds, spotted with blast of colorful fall leafs. The streams contain small trout that a few fly fisherman try to fool with the latest homemade fly to match the hatch.
In the winter i find that this area is so cozy when a fresh blanket of snow is covering everything, the smell of hickory in the air, like acoustics muffling the sounds of each valley stream bottoms.
