Research in YELLOWSTONE
Sometimes nature is so big and powerful where a human being is so small, Yellowstone makes me feel that way. I love a place that must have look like it did 1000 years ago. It is spiritual to me. This inspires me to paint nature and wildlife.
There is always something wonderful happening in Yellowstone. The experts at this park are the best in the world at what they do. Some of the local hunters and farmers might not agree, many think that there are too many wolves that are protected by the park, causing harm to the pets, Cattle, Deer and Elk population. The balance of the wolf population is a tough problem to solve. It seems to me that some kind of balance is needed as our human population keeps growing, but destroying all the wolf population seems to be extreme.
I had close a call with a buffalo a few years ago where i was taking pictures with my daughter Aimee, I eased out of the car to get a close up of a big male. When decided to show me who was boss, I ran and dove back into the car, rolled the up the window just in time to see his red eye slowly float by the window looking at me with distain. I clicked off some great photos and survived.
On another adventure at the park a fellow artist and i hiked into a spot where a Bull Moose was supposably bedding. As we reached the spot where we thought he would be, a big crash rang out as we came over a ridge. Two bulls of the same size were in a hated battle over his woman and son. While trying to get some good pictures they battled there way toward me so fast i wasn't quite prepared. One of the hoofs came within feet of stepping on me, never new I was there.
Those are the kinds of things you see in Yellowstone. Animals don't always perceive humans as a threat, and you can get very close to the animals unlike anywhere else, making for great research.
